Trade Director – Corporate Banking (Mid-Corporate Trade & Working Capital)
Alongside Corporate Banking, Trade & Working Capital supports clients in the UK with an annual turnover of over £6.5 million, across various sectors through the provision of working capital facilities and risk mitigation instruments for importers and exporters. All of our clients, regardless of size or complexity, want a financial partner they can trust. And, in line with Barclays’ common purpose, they also expect us to have the people and capabilities to help them achieve their ambitions in the right way.
Role Overview
You will be responsible for retaining and growing a portfolio of clients that use Trade products, effectively supporting and contributing to growth across several industry sectors within UK Corporate Banking. This role will require:
- Close working with a number of Relationship Directors/Bankers
- Delighting customers and maximising satisfaction & advocacy
- Ensuring seamless and straightforward Trade support access
Key to success will be:
- Proactive and sustained interaction with a broad range of clients and colleagues across multiple functions
- Enabling the journey to becoming the ‘go-to’ bank
Key Success Factors
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A deep understanding of Trade & Working Capital products
- Enhanced knowledge of credit risk processes and policy
- Drive and resilience to deliver results through relationship-building
- Well-established customer relationships and internal networks
- Practical experience in client-facing roles, interacting at all levels within client structures
- Strong service and communication skills
- Robust planning and organisational skills

Purpose of the Role
- Generate revenue
- Promote the bank’s diverse Trade & Working Capital products and services to various customer segments
Accountabilities
Customer Engagement & Strategy
- Identify potential customers, analyse their needs, preferences, and stay abreast of emerging market trends and competitor strategies
- Create detailed profiles for target customer segments, outlining their requirements, needs, and pain points to tailor sales approaches and product recommendations
Relationship Management
- Manage potential and existing customer relations through high-quality support, querying resolution, and trust-building
- Understand financial goals, challenges, and customer feedback to inform product development and sales strategies
Product & Sales Expertise
- Demonstrate deep knowledge of Trade & Working Capital products, including features, benefits, risks, compliance, and regulatory requirements
- Develop sales pitches, proposals, and negotiate terms that benefit both client and bank
Analysis & Performance Tracking
- Analyse customer feedback to support reports for stakeholders
- Monitor lead conversion rates, customer acquisition costs, and other relevant sales performance metrics
