Who Are ENCYCLIS?
Our state-of-the-art facilities process residual waste that would otherwise go to landfills, converting it into sustainable baseload electricity, heat, and other practical resources to accelerate the circular economy.
Encyclis is constructing a brand new Energy Recovery Facility (ERF) in Walsall, Midlands. This facility provides a sustainable alternative to landfill, converting household, commercial, and non-hazardous industrial residual waste into clean electricity.
The new ERF povers over 436,000 tonnes of residual waste per year and generate 49 megawatts of low-carbon energy, powering over 90,000 homes.

The Opportunity
Electrical, Controls and Instrumentation (EC&I) Team Leader
Area of Work: Walsall Energy Recovery Facility (ERF) Reports To: Maintenance Manager Key Responsibilities:
- Overseeing health and safety for site staff, contractors, and visitors
- Coordinating, supervising, and performing all planned and unplanned maintenance, inspections, and diagnostics on ERF plant
- Ensuring operational compliance and adherence to Encyclis’ health, safety, and environmental procedures
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Technical and Operational:
- Execute planned, preventative, and reactive maintenance for EC&I, HV/LV electrical assets, and systems within ERF boundaries.
- Line management responsibilities for EC&I Maintenance Technicians including onboarding, development, and performance management.
- Co-ordinate and supervise all plant maintenance involving contract work, service agreements while controlling the work scope and work standards.
- Ensure adherence to safe systems of work and work instructions while meeting project requirements.
- Execute maintenance planning for major planned outages and technical projects.
- Oversee and manage real-time diagnostics on Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Remote I/O (RI&O), and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).
- Engage with the Maintenance Planner in optimising the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to manage workloads effectively.
- Lead and maintain erection of EC&I maintenance workshops and spares inventory protocols to facilitate operational workflows.

H&S and Compliance:
- Ensure adherence to **all Safety Rules, ACOP, SMI, and LMI standards for a safe working environment.
- Report any unsafe conditions, accidents, or incidents.
- Drive triple zero commitments safeguarding against injuries, defects, and environmental impacts.
Governance and Initiatives:
- Implement short- and long-term maintenance strategies aligned with industry best practices.
- Maintain CEMS systems to ensure the facility remains environmentally compliant with governmental standards.
- Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) into major defects and ensure corrective and preventative actions are executed.
System Updates:
- Update and post maintenance schedules, technical proposals, workshop reports, and cost analyses for CAPEX decisions and project implementations.
- Develop, review, and maintain relevant Method Statements and Risk Assessements for EC&I department in line with current regulations.
Training and Mobility:
- Provide cover for the Maintenance Manager, as required.
- Offer mentorship and professional development to EC&I Technician and Operators Team.

Qualifications, Experience & Skills
Education:
Preferred:
- Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Electrical, Controls, or Instrumentation Engineering.
- Formal technical or apprenticeship training focused on instrumentations, control systems, or energy recovery operations.
Alternatives Accepted:
- Other highly relevant qualifications featuring industry experience, specifically in ERF, or large process plants.
Experience (Required):
- 5 years minimum of combined mechanical/plant/process maintenance experience, preferably including ERF operations, major shutdowns, or outage experience.
- Deep knowledge in:
- pressure systems and parts
- gas pathways
- conveyor systems
- hydraulic systems
- vessels and rotating plant
Skills (Required):

Expert Communicator
- Strong verbal and written English for daily operations and reporting.
- Ability to present technical details effectively to site managers and teams.

Technical Skilled Operator
- Interpret P&IDs, schematics, and technical diagrams to troubleshoot equipment.
- Experience in alignment, calibration, fault analysis, and PLC optimisation.

High Level Numeracy & Analytical Thinking
- Proficiency in fundamental arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
- Ability to calculate rates, ratios, and percentages and interpret graphs and monitoring systems.

IT Acumen
- Computer Literate with experience using CMMS and software applications related to plant maintenance.
