Job Description

Purpose of the Role

To manage and develop capital project proposals and operations aligned to the needs of the bank.

Accountabilities

  • Management, development, and execution of building, real estate, and physical asset security projects and proposals, including workspace, engineering, and facility upgrades.
  • Management of planning, design, procurement, resourcing, reporting, and construction processes to ensure deliverables are completed on time and within budget.
  • Identification of potential risks and issues associated with capital projects and development of risk management strategies to mitigate them by monitoring risk exposure and taking corrective action.
  • Management of project budget for real estate and physical security projects by tracking expenses, forecasting costs, and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
  • Management of stakeholder relations including project sponsors, vendors, regulatory agencies, and the facilities management team to align capital project operations with the bank's objectives.
  • Identification of opportunities to improve the delivery processes for capital projects and implement best practices to enhance project performance.
  • Execution of capital projects that meet agreed quality standards and are compliant with relevant laws, regulations, and policies.

  • If the role is an individual contributor, be a subject matter expert within your own discipline and guide technical direction.
  • Lead collaborative, multi-year assignments and guide team members through structured assignments, identify the need for the inclusion of other areas of specialization to complete assignments.
  • Train, guide, and coach less experienced specialists and provide information affecting long-term profits, organizational risks, and strategic decisions.
  • Advise key stakeholders, including functional leadership teams and senior management on functional and cross-functional areas of impact and alignment.
  • Manage and mitigate risks through assessment, in support of the control and governance agenda.
  • Demonstrate leadership and accountability for managing risk and strengthening controls in relation to the work your team does.
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the organization's functions to contribute to achieving the goals of the business.
  • Collaborate with other areas of work, for business-aligned support areas to keep up to speed with business activity and the business strategies.
  • Create solutions based on sophisticated analytical thought comparing and selecting complex alternatives. In-depth analysis with interpretative thinking will be required to define problems and develop innovative solutions.
  • Adopt and include the outcomes of extensive research in problem-solving processes.
  • Seek out, build, and maintain trusting relationships and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to accomplish key business objectives, using influencing and negotiating skills to achieve outcomes.

Join Us at Barclays as a UK & Europe Regional Design Manager

In this role, you will join the Corporate Real Estate team, reporting to the Global Head of Design and leading the design vision and delivery of workplace, amenity, and client-facing environments across the UK and Europe. You will play a critical role in shaping the physical spaces that reflect Barclays’ brand, support business performance, and create exceptional experiences for colleagues and clients.

The role involves collaboration with architects, designers, project managers, and senior business stakeholders to develop innovative workplace concepts and ensure high-quality execution across a diverse portfolio of projects. You will be responsible for overseeing design deliverables, reviewing technical documentation, sourcing furniture and materials, coordinating mock-ups, and driving consistency across regional projects. This role also offers the exciting opportunity to contribute to a major multi-year renovation of Barclays’ London Headquarters. The position requires strong stakeholder engagement, design leadership, and the ability to influence decisions across multiple functions and geographies.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree or higher in Interior Design, Architecture, or a related discipline.
  • Significant experience in commercial interior design, with a proven track record delivering complex workplace projects for corporate, financial, or institutional organizations.
  • Strong knowledge of materials, finishes, furniture systems, workplace design principles, and technology integration within modern office environments.
  • The ability to lead design initiatives from concept through delivery, balancing creative vision with technical excellence and business objectives.

Some Other Highly Valued Skills/Experience Include:

  • A strong portfolio showcasing large-scale workplace, corporate office, or financial services projects.
  • Experience collaborating with architectural practices and reviewing technical drawings, specifications, and design documentation.
  • Knowledge of building regulations, accessibility requirements, and sustainable design practices.
  • Professional certifications such as NCIDQ, LEED, PMP, or equivalent industry qualifications.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams and managing multiple project schedules in a fast-paced environment.
