Manage UK logistics, import/export, trade compliance.
Job Description
Trade Compliance & Customs
- Import/Export Leadership: Oversee all UK inbound and outbound international freight activities, ensuring full compliance with global trade regulations.
- AEO & Audit Management: Maintain and leverage our Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) status. Act as the primary lead for internal and external HMRC/customs audits.
- Export Licensing: Manage and maintain all necessary export licences, ensuring strict adherence to controlled goods regulations.
- Tax & Duty Optimisation: Apply a deep understanding of cross-border tax implications (VAT, tariffs, duties) to mitigate financial risks and optimise landed costs.
Operations & Carrier Management
- Domestic & International Freight: Oversee the end-to-end movement of goods domestically within the UK and internationally across global trade lanes.
- Carrier Management: Manage relationships with third-party carriers, freight forwarders, and 3PL providers. Negotiate contracts and SLAs to drive performance and achieve measurable cost savings.
- Repair Logistics: Design and manage robust repair/reverse logistics workflows to minimise turnaround times and improve customer satisfaction.
- Process Improvement: Continuously analyse supply chain data to identify bottlenecks, implementing Lean or Six Sigma methodologies to drive operational excellence across the logistics network.

Strategic Initiatives & M&A
- M&A Integration: Act as the logistics lead during Mergers & Acquisitions, assessing target supply chains, identifying synergies, and smoothly integrating acquired logistics networks into our existing infrastructure.
- UK Market Expertise: Apply a strong understanding of the UK freight market, transport regulations, and infrastructural networks to optimize routing and carrier selection.
Basic Requirements
Qualifications & Experience
- Experience: Substantial experience in logistics, domestic distribution, and international freight management within the UK market.
- Trade Expertise: Proven track record managing AEO accreditations, export licensing, and complex HMRC/customs audits.
- Financial Acumen: Strong understanding of international trade tax implications and a history of delivering demonstrable cost savings.
- Vendor Management: Extensive experience selecting, negotiating with, and managing third-party freight forwarders and carriers.
- Warehousing Knowledge (Desired): A strong understanding of general warehouse operations and inventory control principles is highly desired to support end-to-end supply chain alignment.
- Strategic Agility: Previous exposure to M&A integrations, supply chain restructuring, or complex project management is a distinct advantage.
- Skills: Strong analytical capabilities, excellent negotiation skills, and the ability to communicate complex trade requirements to non-technical stakeholders.
