Where you will be working
Encyclis is building a brand new Energy Recovery Facility in Walsall based in the Midlands. The new facility will be a sustainable alternative to landfill, using household, commercial and non-hazardous industrial residual waste, left after recycling and composting efforts, as a fuel to generate clean electricity. The facility, which is now in its construction phase and is expected to commence full commercial operations in 2027, will provide a vital outlet for the sustainable disposal of over 436,000 tonnes of residual waste per year and will generate 49 megawatts of low carbon energy - enough electricity to meet the needs of over 90,000 homes.
We encourage all applicants to apply as soon as possible as we may close vacancies early if we receive a high number of applications.
The Opportunity
The Shift Plant Operator (SPO) is responsible for the safe operation of Walsall ERF by utilisation of a Distributed Control System (DSC) to ensure close monitoring and control of the operational processes and parameters of the facility. Reporting directly to the Operations Shift Team Leader, the Shift Plant Operator will work in accordance with Encyclis’ procedures, whilst ensuring the facility is operationally compliant with the Environmental Permit and all related emissions to air, land and water.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
