Summary

Join our professional team as a Transportation Manager to contribute to optimizing transportation networks. You will be responsible for managing inbound, outbound, intercompany, and direct shipments while balancing service excellence with cost efficiency. Working with the transportation management team and Global Transportation Group, you will develop and execute transportation strategies that enhance operational effectiveness.

In this role, you will design and optimize road/air networks, negotiate with carriers, and implement process improvements across all transportation modes. You will collaborate with internal partners to create efficient inbound strategies and develop optimal solutions for imports. Your expertise in managing dangerous goods and multi-modal transportation networks will contribute directly to our mission of making the world healthier, cleaner, and safer.

Position Summary & Key Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates and promotes the company vision.
  • Provides coaching, clear direction and training, including system training and SOP training on regular basis.
  • Developing and maintaining excellent relationships with the various group and divisional business leaders across CTD.
  • Interacts with Quality Assurance/Regulatory personnel to drive Problem Reports to closure, up to and including facilitation of investigation and root cause analysis in conjunction with Program Managers and Project Managers.
  • Leads comprehensive analysis that draws on their expertise and that of the wider team to develop solutions to business issues to proactively find opportunities for the business to lower procurement costs or improve carrier service levels.

  • Establish Goals for direct reports in accordance with company initiatives and vision.
  • Applies GDP Principles in all areas of responsibility.
  • Leads and ensures regular 1:1s, PMDs are always conducted (and documented) for Direct Reports and is accountable for following the Absence and Performance management processes at all times.
  • Support onboarding, induction, training, competency management, and upskilling of team members.
  • Supports internal, client, and regulatory audits and ensure timely completion of corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders including Quality, Engineering, Planning, HR, IT, Facilities, suppliers, and contractors.
  • Works closely together with the Project Managers and Logistics Teams from Fisher Clinical Services and establishes regular performance meetings for the business.
  • Responsible for ensuring Dangerous Goods consignments are inspected and handled as per IATA regulations.
  • Responsible for monitoring the performance of Third-Party Suppliers and implementation of related KPIs and performance measures.
  • Responsible and accountable for the UK operation and P&L for Transportation function.
  • Responsible for rightsizing the operation and related cost saving initiatives.

Experience, Knowledge & Skills:

  • Advanced Degree and/or relevant experience at Manager level, or Bachelor's Degree plus 8 years of experience in transportation/logistics management (preferred Fields of Study: Supply Chain Management, or Business Logistics).
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication, with strong editing and proofreading abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive/confidential information always using a high-level of discretion and integrity.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of multiple transportation modes including LTL, TL, intermodal, air/ocean freight, and parcel operations.
  • Demonstrated experience in P&L management and achieving year-over-year cost reductions.
  • Proven ability to lead a team.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to rapidly evaluate and distill key information.
  • Demonstrate ability to think strategically while identifying tactical requirements vital to achieve Thermo Fisher Scientific objectives.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to develop logistics models.
  • Expertise in transportation regulations, DOT compliance, and safety protocols.
  • Experience with temperature-controlled and hazardous materials transportation.
  • Commitment to maintaining EH&S standards.
  • Fluency in English; additional language skills beneficial.
  • Project management capabilities and ability to guide continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems, TMS, WMS, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience in vendor management and carrier relationship development.
