Are you GMC registered? Have you worked in the NHS as a Doctor for at least 2 years? Are you interested in teaching? UHBW is seeking three Clinical Teaching Fellows to join the North Somerset Academy at Weston General Hospital. These posts offer a fantastic opportunity to develop a career in Medical Education while maintaining clinical experience in a supportive learning environment.
About The Role
Clinical Teaching Fellows play a key role in delivering Undergraduate Medical Education for University of Bristol medical students (Years 2, 3, and 5).
- 9 teaching sessions per week: Teaching, tutoring, and pastoral support
- 1 clinical session per week: in an area of your choice
Opportunity to complete a funded Postgraduate Medical Education Certificate (from an approved list)
Involvement in educational research
Teaching Responsibilities Span Years 2–5, Including
- Year 2: Effective Consulting Clerkship
- Year 3: Full-time clerkships across medicine, surgery & specialties
- Year 5: Assistantships in Acute & Critical Care, Primary Care, and Ward-Based Care
You’ll get involved in bedside teaching, small group teaching, tutorials, and helping run assessments both locally and with the Medical School. You will join a wider faculty of Clinical Teaching Fellows across UHBW, contributing to high-quality teaching, student support, and curriculum delivery.

North Somerset Academy is one of 8 Academies forming the University of Bristol Medical School.
Objectives of the Post
- To develop competence in teaching and develop teaching skills through studying a Certificate in Medical Education
- To develop and deliver the MBChB curriculum for Medical Students in years 2, 3, or 5. The post holder will be allocated a year group and work closely with the Undergraduate Medical Education team to plan and deliver the units. New course design will require some flexibility.
- To support the other year undergraduate teaching programmes, including the development of teaching materials and enhancement of learning within the clinical skills lab with the other CTFs.
- Act as a professional role model and mentor for the student body during their placements.
- Supervise the generic professional behaviours/skills that are expected of the students - and demonstrate these at all times.
- Contribute and participate in the assessment process for medical students
- The post holder should be flexible, professional and cooperative within the evolving needs of the clinical academy.
- It may be necessary to attend university meetings in Bristol or examine in other academies.
You will be expected to work 40 hours per week - clinical work limited to set days – on all other days teaching takes priority.
