Are You Looking to Gain Hands-On Industry Experience During Your Placement Year?

As an Undergraduate Facilities Assistant, you will help ensure our Glasgow site remains compliant, well-maintained and fully operational. Working alongside the Facilities Manager and wider team, you will support day-to-day facility tasks, assist with essential maintenance, and help uphold the high standards required within a GMP/GLP-regulated laboratory environment.

This role offers broad exposure across facilities management, quality systems, contractor coordination, and health & safety—ideal for students interested in engineering, facilities, science, technical operations, or related fields.

Key Responsibilities

Facilities & Maintenance Support

  • Assist with basic electrical, plumbing and joinery tasks within your competence level.
  • Support sub-contractor engineers during planned or reactive maintenance visits and log activity in the equipment database.
  • Identify and report repairs or issues to the Facilities Manager.

Laboratory & Site Compliance

  • Carry out temperature and air pressure checks in laboratory areas.
  • Change gas cylinders and complete related safety tasks.
  • Support laboratory housekeeping, sink sanitisation and cleaning activities to SOP standards.

Stock, Stores & Materials Management

  • Manage material receipts and maintain accurate records using our materials management system.
  • Perform stock control within main and satellite stores to ensure availability of essential items.

Quality & Safety

  • Work in accordance with GMP/GLP guidelines and company quality policies.
  • Assist with SOP reviews, departmental checks and CAPA-related actions.
  • Participate in fire detection testing and record all activities accurately.
  • Always adopt safe working practices and uphold SGS’s Code of Integrity, Equality and Diversity.

Qualifications

What We’re Looking For

  • Currently studying an undergraduate degree and seeking a 12-month placement.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Willingness to undertake training and learn new practical skills.
  • A proactive, reliable and safety-focused approach.
