The Role
About the Placement
The Undergraduate Industrial Placement – Analytical Scientist opportunity offers a chance to develop technical expertise in analytical chemistry within a dynamic, diverse, and rewarding healthcare environment. Your work will directly contribute to patient care by ensuring the safety, efficacy, and quality of our medicines.
What You Will Be Doing
- Conduct analyses for clinical supplies, formulation development, process stability, and scale-up using advanced analytical techniques (e.g., HPLC).
- Process and interpret raw data, report findings, and collaborate with formulation and device teams to support research.
- Maintain compliance with cGMP documentation standards for accuracy and traceability.
- Troubleshoot instrumentation and investigate aberrant results to improve process efficiency.
- Adhere to all EHS safety, GMP, GCP, and compliance policies throughout the placement.
- Assume additional responsibilities aligned with a high-impact, hands-on laboratory role as needed.

Requirements
Qualifications & Experience
- A-levels (or equivalent) in science (e.g., biology, chemistry, or physics) with a strong focus on practical work.
- Currently undertaking (or having started) a relevant BSc or MSc degree in Analytical Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Science, or related field.
- Proven foundational skills in analytical chemistry (e.g., laboratory techniques, calculations, data handling).
- Experience with HPLC or other modern analytical methods is advantageous though not mandatory.
- Exposure to troubleshooting analytical procedures or instrumentation calibration would be a valuable addition.
- Practical laboratory experience (e.g., internships, industrial projects) provides context but will be matched by mentored training where deficient.
- Autonomous work style: Ability to operate independently while planning tasks, achieving high-quality results on time.
