About the Team Hiscox have been writing an Energy book as part of the wider Marine, Energy & Specialty (MES) Division within Hiscox London Market for many years and is viewed as one of the leading Markets in the class. The Energy portfolio is written alongside Marine Hull & War, Marine Cargo and Marine & Energy Liabilities. Starting off as an Upstream portfolio we have diversified our product offering in line with the requirements of our clients, the market and the broader ‘Energy Transition’. The Energy line at Hiscox currently underwrites a broad spectrum of the Energy value chain including Upstream, Midstream, Downstream, Renewables and Power. Whilst we underwrite out of London we have a truly global footprint and a broad underwriting appetite. Our team is currently comprised of 13 underwriters who are closely supported by a team of engineering, claims, pricing, exposure management and operations personnel. The key to our success is our deep technical understanding of the products we sell and the activities our clients perform which enable us to identify the best risks and differentiate ourselves from our competitors. What you’ll be doing in the role The key to success in this role will be a detailed underwriting approach, strong relationship management and strong negotiation skills. You will need to thrive in a business development role and be able to demonstrate a skill for working with brokers and clients. Responsibilities Underwrite a book of renewable risks in line with individual Underwriting Authority and wider portfolio guidelines. Share views and help develop our underwriting strategy. Carry out risk analysis utilising modelling and technical guides, tools and group guidelines. Develop and strengthen product and underwriting knowledge and judgement including review of wordings. Monitor and keep abreast of changes in underwriting, regulation and compliance. Build and maintain relationships with key brokers and clients including representing Hiscox at meetings, conferences, client visits etc. Work effectively with key internal stakeholders including Engineering, Pricing, Claims, Exposure Management and Operations. Work with the Operations team to ensure the required underwriting and compliance guidelines are followed and documentation and recording systems remains up to date and accurate. Personal Specification Have demonstrable and meaningful experience underwriting Renewable risks in the London market, preferably in a lead capacity. Experience underwriting Power, Offshore or Construction risks may be of benefit. Have strong analytical capabilities to assess risks and demonstrate accurate judgement. Decisive in nature, displaying good judgement in decisions and taking accountability A driven and curious individual who demonstrates interest and enthusiasm to learn. Able to work independently but also be an effective team worker. A great communicator who can work with people at all levels, and are just as comfortable with clients and leaders in the industry as they are with their own team. Be able to demonstrate the ability to work effectively and maximise the potential of our Engineering/Pricing/Catastrophe Modelling team. Be able to build strong relationships, both internally and externally. Work under pressure whilst maintaining a high attention to detail and ensuring that deadlines are met. Demonstrate a willingness to travel as needed and attend and host business social events. Excellent negotiation skills and an insatiable drive to make the portfolio highly profitable Progress in ACII examinations or a commitment to complete them.
