Avencia are partnered with an established organisation looking to recruit an Underwriter to continue to grow its UK healthcare portfolio.

This is a market-facing position with a strong emphasis on developing broker relationships, generating new-business opportunities and underwriting medical malpractice risks.

The organisation writes a broad range of primary and secondary healthcare risks, including GP practices, clinics, diagnostics providers and occupational health businesses. You’ll join an experienced underwriting team and have considerable autonomy to manage your own broker relationships, diary and development activity.

  • Develop and underwrite new UK medical malpractice business
  • Build commercially successful relationships across the UK healthcare broking market
  • Identify, manage and convert new-business opportunities
  • Maintain an active pipeline and develop longer-term broker strategies
  • Assess, price and negotiate risks within agreed underwriting authority
  • Represent the business at broker, client and market meetings
  • Provide technical input on policy wordings, clauses and endorsements
  • Act as a referral point and share technical knowledge with colleagues
  • Monitor market developments and identify opportunities for portfolio growth
  • Support the continued development of underwriting guidelines and products

Skills & Experience

  • Experience underwriting UK medical malpractice or healthcare risks
  • Demonstrable experience writing and developing new business
  • Established relationships within the UK healthcare broking market
  • Strong commercial, negotiation and relationship-management skills
  • Comfortable representing the business externally and maintaining a visible market presence
