Specialty Marine Underwriter – Builders Risk Rotterdam

Underwriter Builders Risk

About MSIG Specialty Marine

MSIG Specialty Marine is a specialist marine MGA (coverholder) delivering tailored insurance solutions across global markets. We combine carrier options to provide A-rated capital flexibility while backed by one of Europe’s largest teams of marine underwriters and claims specialists.

With ~250 professionals and wide-ranging product suites, we are recognised for our technical expertise, client focus, and solution-driven approach. Our mission: to be a world-class marine insurance partner—collaborating closely with clients to deliver innovative risk solutions and first-class service from underwriting to claims.

The Opportunity

We’re seeking an Underwriter (Builders Risk) to join our Rotterdam team in a key, strategically influential role. This position fosters ownership and progression as you grow your expertise across the underwriting lifecycle, including risk assessment, broker relationships, portfolio management, and growth strategy.

Key Responsibilities (Scaling with Experience)

  • Contribute to underwriting complex Builders Risk and Energy-related risks
  • Assume increasing accountability for acCOUNT portfolios and broker relationships
  • Influence portfolio development and profitable growth

This role offers real ownership: transition from reviewing risks to shaping how MSIG Specialty Marine writes them—moving beyond transactional tasks to judgement-driven decision-making.

The Role in Practice

Your work will span technical underwriting, commercial acumen, and relationship management, including:

  • Analysing complex shipbuilding projects (e.g. dredging vessels, mega yachts, offshore/defence assets);
  • Advising on new builds, repairs, conversions, and energy-transition-related contracts.
  • Engaging with brokers and clients across, multi-country markets (Netherlands, UK, Germany, Spain, US/Canada, Eastern Europe), ensuring MSIG aligns with transformation opportunities.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
