Crisis Management – Underwriting and Business Development Role

Role Purpose

The Crisis Management team specialises in product recall solutions, catering to a diverse range of industries including:

  • Product contamination
  • Auto and component recall liability
  • Consumer goods recall

Our primary market focus is the USA, though coverage extends globally.

  • A highly analytical and detailed underwriting approach
  • Exceptional relationship management and impactful sales skills
  • Robust organisational abilities and proactive forward-thinking
  • A commitment to business development, with experience in engaging senior brokers/clients
  • The ability to own account visibility and drive profitable business growth

Key Responsibilities

Underwriting Focus

  • Primarily underwrite the Product Recall section of the Crisis Management portfolio.
  • Collaborate with the Lead Underwriter to implement and refine the underwriting strategy for your class.
  • Ensure underwriting excellence by adhering to:
    • Risk appetite guidelines
    • Lines setting standards
    • Rating and pricing adequacy
  • Conduct genuine risk exposure assessments and enforce contractual terms compliance.
  • Apply and follow underwriting rules and market best practices.

Client & Market Leadership

  • Provide knowledgeable and persuasive service to brokers and clients, positioning Starr as the preferred provider for Crisis Management solutions.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong client-broker relationships, focusing on high-value partnerships.

Profit-Driven Growth

  • Develop targeted business initiatives to effectively grow the portfolio profitably.
  • Continuously evolve the underwriting appetite, analysing portfolio trends and adjusting primary/secondary exposures as needed.

This role may require additional duties outside the listed responsibilities, aligned with your experience and competency.



Qualifications, Skills & Experience

Essential Criteria

  • Proven track record in profitable underwriting or broking, with a focus on recall products.
  • Strong market reputation in Product Recall insurance, including established broker-client networks.
  • Ability to develop business from diverse sources with a rapid growth mindset.
  • Excellent communication and persuasion skills for multi-level engagement.
  • Decisive risk management experience, with a demonstrated ability to own and justify decisions.
  • Familiarity with online trading portals or automated placement systems (preferred).
