Opportunity Overview
This role is ideal for:
- Broker transitioning into underwriting
- Experienced Hull & War underwriters seeking a new challenge
As part of a growing Marine account, you will:
- Work on a broad and diverse portfolio
- Develop and build broker relationships in the Lloyds market
- Take ownership of new business and renewals
We offer flexibility in our Hybrid Work Arrangements Policy:
- Full-time employees work 3 days per week in the office and 2 days at home (or pro-rated for part-time roles); policies may adjust at the Company’s discretion.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate to enhance the profitability, growth, and retention of the Hull & War Line of Business through:
- Adherence to Company policies, procedures, controls (including audit requirements) and Lloyds Underwriting Management Standards:
- Ensuring all business aligns with individual underwriting authority
- Ensuring compliance with Lloyds Individual Registration Byelaw and the Units business plan for the relevant year.
- Developing the Line of Business (LoB) and associated services, including:
- Researching and identifying target business
- Competitor analysis, industry trends, economic factors, and market conditions.
- Utilising appropriate systems to:
- Accurately enter quotes, risks, and endorsements
- Ensure statistical, regulatory, and operational reporting integrity.
- Data analysis and reporting for strategic underwriting decisions.
- Market and world affairs monitoring to support Opportunity Development.
- Promoting Travelers LoB and strategy by:
- Building partnerships with Agents, Brokers, and Clients
- Aligning underwriting philosophy and procedures with the Company’s requirements.
- Mentoring and coaching colleagues as needed.
- Performing additional duties as assigned.

Desirable Qualifications
Experience and Expertise:
- Experience within the Lloyds Market, with a foundational understanding of internal and external market factors.
- Hull & War Underwriting knowledge (preferred).
- Ability to showcases emerging technical proficiency, applicable to your underwriting authority.
- Capacity for sound quoting and pricing decisions that align with Company interests.

- Relationship Management:
- Proactively seeking, building, fostering, and maintaining alliances to meet collective goals.
- Analytical Thinking / Financial Acumen:
- Identifying challenges/opportunities and evaluating trends.
- Applying financial principles to ensure underwriting decisions contribute positively to the business.
- Product & Technical Knowledge:
- Competent application of underwriting methodologies for granted responsibilities.
- Business Awareness:
- Aligning market dynamics with underwriting strategy.

- Academic qualification in ethics recommended: Progressing toward an ACII qualification.
Must-Have Requirements
- London Market Insurance experience, either in underwriting or brokerage roles
- Minimum secondary level education or equivalent
