About Hiscox
As an international specialist insurer, we are far removed from the world of mass insurance products, selectively focusing on key areas of expertise and strength. Our culture encourages challenging convention and always looking for better ways.
Projected by our strong moral fibre, we prioritise the principle of doing what we say we will. Insuring the unique and interesting, our search for talent is the same. We empower our people to:
- Think creatively
- Challenge the status quo
- Approach challenges with a solutions-focused lens
This mindset allows us to provide insurance solutions that are often too complex for other insurance companies—where others give up, we find a way.
If you thrive in a challenging and collaborative environment where you're trusted to work instinctively and are confident Hiscox will stretch you to your full potential, look no further.
About the Team
Hiscox has managed an Energy book as part of the Marine, Energy & Specialty (MES) Division in Hiscox London Market for many years, building a reputation as a leading market in this class. The Energy portfolio is underwritten alongside Marine Hull & War, Marine Cargo, and Marine & Energy Liabilities.
Starting with an Upstream portfolio, we continue to diversify our product offerings to meet the evolving client needs, market expectations, and broader Energy Transition trends. Currently, the Energy line at Hiscox covers a broad spectrum of the Energy value chain, including:
- Upstream
- Midstream
- Downstream
- Renewables
- Power
While we specialise in underwriting remotely out of London, we maintain a global footprint with a broad underwriting appetite. Our team consists of 13 underwriters, supported closely by experts in engineering, claims, pricing, exposure management, and operations.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
