Underwriter – Commercial Insurance – UK MGA
Location: London – Hybrid
Salary: Flexible – DOE
As an underwriter, you might be at a junction in your career where your future isn’t very clear.
If you feel that your progression is stifled by drawn-out decision-making processes, lack of autonomy or poor management of the team strategy, then it’s worth reading on.
IDEX are currently partnering with an established London market MGA, currently in high-growth mode, which is looking to add strength to its underwriting division.
This role will suit an ambitious and entrepreneurial commercial Underwriter, who seeks out opportunities in the market and isn’t afraid to go after them. In return, you’ll have the platform, autonomy and management buy-in to bring ideas to the table and act on them.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
