Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for underwriting business on behalf of the syndicate within the parameters of the Syndicate Business Forecast (SBF) and the Syndicate Underwriting Guidelines (SUG’s).
- Assist the BGL in development of long/short term strategy, and SBF for relevant class of business.
- Assist the 'Head of' in the planning and negotiation of outward reinsurance in accordance with Company corporate standards and SBF.
- Build and maintain good client and broker relationships to access new and renewal business in accordance with our SBF. Provide a high quality service to brokers and customers and ensure timely responsiveness to business flow.
- Ensure that the monitoring of underwriting activities, risk controls and compliance checks are in accordance with the SUG’s and Class of Business (COB) Guidelines.
- Ensure that syndicate management reporting requirements, premium income monitoring, Management Information (MI) and Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) are complied with.
- Ensure that underwriting administration processes including risk recording and Performance Management Data (PMD) rate change information is in accordance with SUG’s.
- Manage and maintain aggregate exposure management/ Realistic Disaster Scenario (RDS’s) within the agreed limits, ensuring that at all times the Exposure Management Team have access to up to date exposure data.
- Ensure that underwriting staff are effectively managed and trained.
- Participate in committees as requested.
- Working in conjunction with Solvency II guidelines and within given parameters.

Minimum Qualifications, Skills And Experience
- Enthusiastic, hardworking and driven individual with a focus on providing the best possible service.
- Can demonstrate ability to work in a busy office environment, prioritise and organise workload in order to meet deadlines.
- Able to learn and take on new tasks quickly and use own initiative to explore possibilities before raising queries.
- Demonstrates pride in delivering excellent, quality service and endeavours to exceed expectations.
- Attention to detail in producing high quality output and able to maintain this when under pressure.
- Excellent communication skills with confidence to ask questions to ensure job requirements and underwriting matters are understood.
- Commitment to identify opportunities to increase efficiency and quality of operational support evidenced through previous achievements.
- Proactive, showing initiative when completing tasks by pre-empting issues and proposing solutions for them.
- Confidence in building rapport and trust with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
