Purpose of the Role

AEGIS London is seeking an Underwriting Analyst to join our Specialty division in a unique role supporting both our Upstream Energy and Marine Hull & War underwriting teams. Working closely with experienced Underwriters, you will analyse complex risks, evaluate submissions, interpret data, and provide insights that support sound underwriting decisions and appropriate risk pricing in line with underwriting guidelines. This is an exceptional opportunity for someone looking to build a career in underwriting. Both teams have an excellent track record of developing junior talent, with many analysts progressing into Underwriter roles. If you're analytical, commercially minded, and eager to learn, you'll gain invaluable exposure across two highly specialised classes within the Lloyd's market.

Duties and Accountabilities

  • Data entry: capture risk details in AEGILITY (our underwriting workbench), ensuring policy information is processed correctly and complies with terms provided. Ensure PBQA (pre-bind quality assurance) checks are completed.
  • Data Analysis: support with the collection, organisation and analysis of whole portfolios down to risk level, including financial statements, credit reports and other relevant information. Collaborate with the Actuarial and Data Science teams to utilise statistical models and underwriting tools to evaluate risks and monitor trends.
  • Market research: work with the team to stay updated on industry trends, market conditions and regulatory changes that may impact underwriting decisions. Support with research and analysis to identify emerging risks and opportunities.
  • Relationship management: collaborate with other areas of the business, such as Claims, Operations and Exposure Management, to gather relevant information and ensure effective communication throughout the underwriting process. Begin to build and maintain relationships with external partners such as brokers and clients to facilitate information exchange, manage credit control issues and contribute to underwriting decisions.
  • Process improvements: contribute with insights as the team continuously evaluate and look to enhance underwriting processes and workflows. Identify opportunities for automation, efficiency improvements and streamlined data management to enhance productivity and accuracy. Prepare documentation and reports for more senior members of the team to present at both internal and external meetings including peer reviews, reinsurance presentations and business planning.
  • Assist with conducting estimated premium income reviews on the portfolio.
  • Provide assistance to the team when required in respect of any internal/external audits.
  • Provide general support to the wider team, such as ad-hoc tasks or projects as they arise.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
