What Is the Opportunity?
You’ll be leading Travelers’ Cyber Underwriting team in the London Market, working closely with the Head of Cyber to drive the strategic growth and excellence of our London-based cyber portfolio. This is a rare opportunity for a technical underwriter with deep London Market experience to shape the future direction of our cyber business, balancing hands-on underwriting with high-level strategic influence.
- Drive pricing and risk selection, ensuring profitability and strong portfolio performance.
- Guide complex, high-profile accounts, acting as a trusted advisor to brokers and clients.
- Shape broker engagement, thought leadership, and industry positioning through events and market visibility.
- Own production, profitability, and underwriting excellence, reporting on London market success.
- Collaborate in strategy execution to set the trajectory for Travelers’ cyber growth.
This role is ideal for a strategic underwriter who can merge technical expertise with market influence to transform our cyber portfolio.
Hybrid Working Policy
Travelers offers flexibility with a 3:2 hybrid model (three days in the office, two at home) by default, though this may adapt based on company needs.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic & Financial Leadership
- Achieve annual production and profitability targets.
- Maintain production within approved capacity of the reinsurance programme (gross and net limits).
- Develop underwriting guidelines for assigned products (e.g., UK Professional Indemnity, Financial Institutions, Management Liability), in alignment with global technical teams and actuarial recommendations.
Risk Underwriting & Selection
- Oversee new business, renewals, and mid-term adjustments to ensure compliance with guidelines and published limits.
- Policing & IT systems: Ensure accurate risk classification, pricing, and compliance with the Commercial Underwriting Practices Manual.
- Verify adequate risk information is collected, safeguarding against poor-quality business entry.
- Monitor market trends to maximise opportunities and mitigate threats within assigned product(s).

- Conduct underwriting competency audits to uphold internal standards and improve policies.
- Ensure requested documentation complies with service standards for customers.
Customer & Broker Relations
- Enhance broker relationships through frequent visits, improving market share and profitability.
- Represent Travelers as a thought leader in the cyber industry, networking strategically at events.
Teaching & Training
- Führend underwriters by ensuring adherence to Product Underwriting Guides, Technical Solutions, and Authority Levels.
- Set objectives and performance goals, guiding team growth through onboarding, hiring, and compensation decisions.
Innovation & Change
- Champion efficiency improvements in underwriting processes.

Specialist Duties
- Handle high-profile or complex referrals, exercising authority and discretion.

Must-Have Requirements
Education & Technical Expertise
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent higher education.
- Preferable: Advanced Insurance Certification (e.g., ACII or equivalent).
Cyber & London Market Competency
- Extensive knowledge of:
- UK Professional Indemnity Insurance
- Financial Institutions Liability (e.g., directors & officers liability)
- Management Liability (e.g., employment practices, environmental liability)
Core Skills
- Financial acumen, organisation, and analytical thinking at an advanced level.
- Strong risk-selection instincts for cyber threats and commercial exposures.
- Fluent communicator (broker-client environments, teams, executive networks).
Leadership Competencies
Leading the Business
- Strategic planning + change management to align with Travelers priorities.
- Decision-making, decision-making, and influencing stylistics at senior levels.
