What Is the Opportunity?
Our Cyber Underwriting team is looking for a high-impact Director to lead the London Market underwriting team. You’ll be at the heart of our Cyber portfolio; working closely with our Head of Cyber to support the strategic direction and growth of the book.
You’ll combine hands-on underwriting with strategic influence — managing a team and shaping how we grow in the London market. You’ll lead on pricing and risk selection, guide complex and high-profile accounts, and be a visible marketplace voice through broker engagement, thought leadership, and industry events. With responsibility for driving production, profitability, and underwriting excellence, you’ll report on the success of the book and help execute our strategy.
This is an incredible opportunity for a technical underwriter with Cyber experience in the London Market to drive portfolio performance and play a pivotal role in the future direction of our Cyber business.
Hybrid Work Arrangement Details
Travelers Europe currently offers flexibility to employees seeking to work on a hybrid basis in accordance with our Hybrid Work Arrangements Policy. Full-time employees work three days in the office and two days at home (or pro-rated for part-time employees). This policy may be subject to change at the Company’s discretion.
What Will You Do?
- Achieve the annually agreed production and profitability objectives.
- Ensure that new business, renewals, and mid-term adjustments within assigned product(s) are underwritten within published guidelines and authorities.
- Monitor that polices processed onto IT systems adhere to the Commercial Underwriting Practices Manual.
- Be accountable for adequate pricing and risk classification within assigned product(s), aligned with Underwriting Guidelines, in collaboration with the Actuarial Department as required.
- Ensure sufficient information is gathered to select high-quality business within product segments.
- Oversee adherence to agreed gross and net capacity each year, ensuring compliance with the reinsurance programme structure.
- Keep abreast of market developments within assigned product(s) and maximise opportunities while mitigating threats.
- Research and develop new opportunities within assigned product(s).
- Maintain that policy documentation for customers accurately reflects agreed coverage and is issued within agreed service standards.
- Promote Travelers’ products and distribution strategies, and offer guidance on underwriting philosophy, procedures, and requirements through regular broker visits to drive growth and profitability.
- Ensure compliance for underwriters with their authority levels, Product Underwriting Guides, Technical Underwriting Guides, Commercial Underwriting Practice Manual, and Business Partner and Processing Manual.
- Lead process and underwriting competency audits to maintain compliance with Commercial Underwriting requirements and ensure high standards.
- Ensure high-quality customer service is delivered to brokers and clients, in line with Commercial Insurance service standards and product-specific service levels.
- Support customer-centric risk management objectives.
- Handle referrals and underwriting of complex and/or high-profile accounts, including individual risk accounts.
- Set and maintain underwriting guidelines for assigned product(s) in collaboration with Chief Underwriting Officers and Technical Solutions to align with Technical Underwriting Guides and Commercial Underwriting Practice Manual.
- Make recommendations for and appropriately maintain underwriting authority documents for assigned product(s).
- Set and manage performance objectives for employees and participate in hiring and compensation decisions.
- Champion or lead projects to improve efficiencies and enhance effectiveness in product(s).
- Perform other duties as assigned.>

Bachelor's degree or higher.

Relevant underwriting experience preferred, with a thorough knowledge of assigned product(s).

- Advanced Qualification in Insurance preferred (such as ACII or equivalent).

- Extensive understanding of UK Professional Indemnity or Financial Institutions and Management Liability.
