Underwriting Delivery Manager
Key Leadership Role – Allianz
You will lead underwriting delivery within your business area, driving strong portfolio performance, technical excellence, and profitable growth. This is a critical leadership position where you will develop underwriting capability whilst ensuring disciplined, high-quality decision-making aligned to strategy.
Location
Candidates may be based at any of our South Region sites, with this being a hybrid working role (expectation to attend the office 2–3 times per week).
About the Role
Main responsibilities include:
- Monitor account and portfolio performance, identifying under- and over-performance and implementing appropriate actions
- Deliver KPI targets across complex cases and portfolios aligned to business strategy
- Apply underwriting authority with a clear understanding of profit and loss (P&L) impact and portfolio performance
- Make key commercial decisions to support profitable growth and strengthen distribution relationships
- Support business development activity in line with distribution segmentation strategy
- Conduct underwriting inspections, account control, and quality review activities when required
- Produce and deliver technical training, mentoring, and coaching to underwriting teams
- Partner with Head Office and training teams to design and deliver technical capability frameworks
- Collaborate with Sales, Distribution, Pricing, Claims, and Operations to support delivery and performance
- Represent Allianz in internal and external forums, engaging with key stakeholders
- Lead, motivate, and develop a team of underwriters to deliver strong results and high engagement

Essential Skills
- Strong technical underwriting expertise, including policy wordings, clauses, and non-standard cover
- Ability to assess risk, pricing, and terms while applying risk management principles effectively
- Understanding of claims drivers and application of mitigation strategies
- Deep knowledge of underwriting governance, legislation, and regulatory frameworks
- Ability to interpret statistical and performance data to identify trends and opportunities
- Comprehensive understanding of reinsurance principles, including treaty and facultative arrangements
- Strong commercial acumen and grasp of portfolio and account management principles
- Proven leadership capability, with experience managing/building underwriting teams
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Ability to balance technical excellence with business performance and growth objectives
Desirable Skills
- ACII qualification or equivalent industry experience
- Completion of underwriting academy modules or similar professional development
- Project or change delivery experience within underwriting environments
- Experience contributing to product development or segmentation activities
- Strong track record of delivering under challenging objectives
- Knowledge of responsible Artificial Intelligence (R-FAI) usage
Salary
Pay is dependent on experience, skills, and location, and is part of our total recompense package.
