Unix Automation Engineer
Role Overview
You will play a crucial role in transforming our infrastructure management by automating and orchestrating patching at a massive scale across our environment of over 125,000 Linux (Red Hat) servers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and maintain systems for the orchestration and automation of OS and kernel patching across a large-scale Linux environment.
- Develop tooling to support advanced capabilities such as live kernel patching to minimise the need for reboots.
- Create and manage robust automation for:
- Pre-change validation (dry runs)
- Post-change verification
- Ensure stability and mitigate risk.
- Build and enhance observability solutions to provide real-time insights into the state of the environment during patching operations.
- Develop scripts, integrations, and automation workflows using tools like Ansible and Python.

Qualifications & Skills
Technical Expertise:
- Deep expertise in Linux, particularly Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).
- Proven experience in software development and scripting with proficiency in:
- Python
- Ansible
- Other relevant automation frameworks
- Experience with modern orchestration tools such Airflow (desirable).
- Strong understanding of networking protocols and principles.
