🎯 About the Role
Areti Group’s Series A startup is scaling rapidly—20+ hires planned in the next 3 months. We’re seeking exceptional Tech Leads to:
- Drive the transition from legacy PHP-based systems to a modern, scalable, API-first architecture in Golang.
- Take ownership of a core API platform team, blending hands-on engineering (~70%) with technical leadership (~30%).
- Own the architecture and standards of a high-performance API system, influencing the product-tech roadmap.
The role blends real impact with a supportive, pragmatic, product-focused culture—ideal for engineers who enjoy building systems, leading teams, and shaping technical direction.
🛠️ Core Responsibilities
- Lead technical direction of the API platform, ensuring alignment with business and product goals.
- Migrate legacy systems to a scalable API-first architecture, minimising disruption.
- Design and build high-performance, low-latency services in Golang.
- Offer expertise in:
- API standards: Design, versioning, and security best practices.
- Cloud-native architecture for reliability and scalability.
- Code quality: Writing maintainable, production-ready backends.
- Mentor/manage a team of 4 engineers, fostering growth and collaboration.
- Escalation point: Resolve complex technical challenges independently.
- Close collaboration with Product, QA, and other engineering teams.

🔨 Essential Requirements
✔ Proven experience as a Tech Lead or Senior Engineer (learner mentality + hands-on comfort). ✔ API/Backend expertise, from design to implementation (legacy modernisation preferred). ✔ Solid OOP architecture skills—capable of scaling systems in production. ✔ Full-stack experience (a mix of backend + frontend systems involvement). ✔ Leadership track record: Managing teams, teaching engineers, and driving change.
🌟 Preferred "Nice to Haves"
✨ Golang experience (or strong commitment / enthusiasm to adopt). ✨ Legacy system modernisation (PHP → Next-Gen, monolith → microservices). ✨ Kubernetes/cloud-native practices (self-service, observability). ✨ High-throughput data systems (e.g., distributed squares, event-driven workflows). ✨ Regulatory domain experience (e.g., healthcare, fintech).

- £90,000 base salary (rated competitive for Series A scale).
