Overview
- Encompassing organisation: UK Antarctic Heritage Trust (UKAHT)
- Fee: £30,000–£35,000 / $40,000–$47,000 (including taxes and project-related expenses)
- Location flexibility: Must be based in the US or UK, with recent demonstrated connections to US philanthropy

UKAHT is seeking a highly experienced international philanthropy and development professional to expand fundraising efforts in the US and global markets. This role presents a unique opportunity to support a growing humanitarian charity focused on heritage conservation, environmental protection, and public engagement in Antarctica.
About the Opportunity
UKAHT has undergone significant growth over the past five years—its fundraising income has increased by 400%—driven by a dedicated team and strategic development initiatives.
In pursuit of its long-term Conservation Masterplan, the organisation must secure substantial new philanthropic support to protect its fragile Antarctic heritage against climate-related threats.
In this consultancy role, you will collaborate closely with the Head of Development, CEO, Board, and team to:
- Develop and pilot a US-focused international fundraising roadmap
- Align UKAHT’s projects with high-impact donor audiences (individuals, foundations, and institutional partners)
Key Responsibilities
- Case for Support & Messaging:
- Adapt UKAHT’s Conservation Masterplan and broader appeal for US and international stakeholders
- Craft a compelling narrative showcasing the unique value of Antarctica’s heritage

Prospect Development & Engagement:
- Identify high-value major donors, foundations, and viable funding opportunities
- Build and maintain a prospect pipeline through rigorous research and due diligence
- Lead proactive cultivation efforts, including relationship building with donors and key partners

Strategy & Implementation:
- Deliver a data-driven strategy report outlining actionable next steps
- Create stewardship and engagement plans for existing international supporters
- Offer guidance on US-specific fundraising compliance requirements

Deliverables: A polished, market-ready case for support, a high-quality donor pipeline, active cultivation work, a practical stewardship strategy, and a clear compliance framework tailored to UKAHT’s needs.
About You
UKAHT seeks a results-driven, collaborative development specialist who excels in strategic planning with a culture of hands-on execution.
Essential Sector & Role-Specific Skills:

Proven US Philanthropy Expertise:
- Experience in the United States fundraising landscape, with successful examples in major gifts, individual donor relations, and/or foundation proposals

Development Skills:
- Strong record of targeted prospect research, donor cultivation, and stewardship models
- Ability to craft influential narratives that resonate with diverse stakeholder priorities (e.g., high-net-worth individuals, family offices, corporate partners)

Leadership & Collaboration:
- experience leading independent research projects while effectively aligning with small teams
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and adaptability in a remote working environment

- Understanding of US and international fundraising compliance, or willingness to advise on suitable approaches
About UKAHT
The UK Antarctic Heritage Trust (UKAHT) preserves and advocates for seven historic Antarctic sites—from the "Penguin Post Office" (Port Lockroy) to Ernest Shackleton’s Endurance shipwreck—and catalyzes public engagement via:
- Virtual reality experiences
- Podcasts, webinars, and schools activities
- Digital storytelling and in-person outreach projects
UKAHT combines heritage conservation, science communication, and environmental voice.
Contract & Requirements
Project Structure:
- Work pattern: Fully remote and flexible
- Agenda could include agreed monthly delivery periods or concentrated sprints
Remuneration:
- Fixed fee: £30,000–£35,000 or $40,000–$47,000 (all-inclusive of listed costs)
- Additional modest spending allowance available for project expenses
Scope & Budget:
The finalised project scope, deliverables, schedule, and cost breakdown will be tailored post-selection.
