About the Role

Location: Hybrid (3 days at Euston Road office, 2 days remote) Team: Experience Design team (Digital & Technology) Direct reports: Senior User Researcher

This role involves working across a diverse range of initiatives, including:

  • Funding and policy platforms
  • The Wellcome Collection Museum & Library
  • Internal tools and data systems

Your mission is clear: Advocate for user needs, uncover insights to build meaningful products, and collaborate across teams.


Key Responsibilities

As a User Researcher, your work will revolve around these core focus areas:

🔍 Research & Insights

  • Plan, execute, and synthesise user research across our digital products using qualitative and quantitative methods (e.g., interviews, surveys, usability testing).
  • Focus on understanding user needs, behaviours, and motivations at all stages of product development (discovery → iteration).
  • Translate insights into clear, actionable findings that align with product roadmaps.

📢 Advocacy & Synthesis

  • Advocate for user-centred design within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Help product managers assess potential risks and value of features through research data.
  • Present findings tailored to diverse stakeholders (e.g., developers, designers, policymakers).

🤝 Recruitment & Equitation

  • Source diverse participants, including individuals with access needs, disabilities, or specific requirements.
  • Engage stakeholders from across Wellcome and external communities to strengthen participant representation.

🚀 Process Improvement

  • Scale research efforts to support Wellcome’s agile, lean product delivery.
  • Build our user knowledge base and company-wide understanding of user needs.
  • Coach and mentor researchers, designers, and all team members in user-centred practices.

📢 Community & Training

  • Participate in internal presentations and external meetups to share learning.
  • Develop internal resources (e.g., toolkits, case studies) to improve research reproducibility and quality.

About Wellcome’s Digital & Technology Department

  • Part of a collaborative team of UX practitioners, developers, and product managers.
  • Focus on delivering high-impact digital tools that align with Wellcome’s mission.
  • Small team with ownership, great flexibility, and opportunities to innovate.

Requirements

To excel in this role, you must demonstrate the following expertise:

📋 Minimum Requirements

✅ Research experience: Recruit participants, moderate sessions, synthesise insights, and present findings. ✅ Method versatility: Execute both qualitative (e.g., interviews, contextual inquiries) and quantitative (e.g., surveys, A/B testing) research. ✅ Stakeholder management: Communicate findings to diverse audiences (e.g., execs, developers) with clarity and impact. ✅ Agile mindset: Align research efforts with lean/agile product timelines and multidisciplinary teams.
