User Services Manager – St George’s Library (Tooting Campus)

About the Role
In this User Services Manager position, you will:
- Lead and enhance library operations and services at the St George’s campus (Tooting) to ensure a premium customer experience
- Collaborate with senior User Services colleagues to evolve services and spaces within the broader University
- Provide operational leadership to the User Services team at St George’s, including training and development
- Contribute strategically to the Library Service’s User Operations function by partnering with senior leaders on projects, service improvements, and operational initiatives

Operational Leadership & Team Management
- Manage the User Services team at St George’s Library with clear responsibility for staff performance, supervision, and career progression.
- Develop a supportive, responsive, and adaptive service culture tailored to student needs.
Service Excellence & Innovation
- Work closely with senior colleagues to design and implement new services, technologies, and spaces that satisfy evolving user requirements.
- Identify service enhancement opportunities, driving measurable improvements through a customer-centric approach.
Strategic Contribution
- Actively engage in operational and project groups to shape the future of the Library Service across City St George’s.
- Collaborate with stakeholder groups (e.g., academic departments, recruitment, and marketing) to align library offerings with institutional goals.
Person Specification
We require a dynamic leader with:
- Exceptional communication and customer service skills, expertise in interacting with diverse library users, delivering training sessions, and engaging effectively with staff and stakeholders.
- A customer-focused problem-solving mindset for designing, optimising, and improving services.
- Substantial experience in staff and service management, including team leadership, performance appraisals, and organisational development.
- Advanced IT proficiency and the ability to embed and embed mastery in emerging technologies (e.g., discovery tools, e-resources, and digital support platforms).
- A proven track record of managing successful projects, demonstrating initiative and adaptability.
