Userplane Protocol Stack Engineer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Userplane Protocol Stack Engineer based in United Kingdom.

This role is ideal for an experienced networking engineer passionate about building and optimizing modern communication systems.

You will contribute to the development of protocol-driven solutions supporting secure, scalable, and high-performance network environments.

The position requires deep knowledge of networking concepts, cloud infrastructure, and distributed systems architecture.

You will work with technologies such as TCP/IP protocols, Kubernetes, cloud platforms, and microservices to solve complex engineering challenges.

Your expertise will help improve connectivity, reliability, and performance across advanced software environments.

Accountabilities

As a Userplane Protocol Stack Engineer, you will design, develop, and support network communication solutions while working across cloud, infrastructure, and software engineering domains. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Applying strong networking expertise to design, troubleshoot, and optimize communication systems.
  • Working with networking protocols including HTTP, DNS, TCP, UDP, SSH, and RDP.
  • Developing and maintaining software components using programming languages such as Go,.NET, Java, C++, or C.
  • Supporting cloud-based networking architectures, SaaS deployments, microservices environments, and Kubernetes-based systems.
  • Working with major cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud Platform.
  • Contributing to secure network communication solutions using technologies such as WireGuard tunnels, gRPC, and messaging systems.
  • Supporting distributed systems and infrastructure components to ensure reliability and scalability.
  • Troubleshooting complex networking and operating system issues in Linux environments.
  • Collaborating with engineering teams to improve system performance and operational efficiency.

Requirements

The ideal candidate is a skilled networking engineer with strong software development experience and a deep understanding of modern infrastructure technologies. You should have hands-on experience working with distributed systems, cloud environments, and communication protocols. Key qualifications include:

  • 5-7 years of professional experience in networking, software engineering, or related infrastructure roles.
  • Strong understanding of networking concepts and how communication protocols operate.
  • Hands-on knowledge of HTTP, DNS, TCP, UDP, SSH, and RDP protocols.
  • Programming experience in at least one language such as Go,.NET, Java, C++, or C.
  • Understanding of cloud networking concepts, SaaS deployments, microservices architecture, and Kubernetes.
  • Experience working with one or more major cloud providers, including AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Familiarity with Linux operating systems and troubleshooting in server environments.
  • Experience with technologies such as gRPC, WireGuard tunnels, or NATS messaging is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work on complex technical challenges.
