We are hiring Junior Utility Locators for a long-term, high-demand skilled trade career. No prior experience is required—we provide full training and hands-on development.
Position Overview
The Junior Utility Locator role involves assisting in the identification and marking of underground utilities using:
- Electromagnetic (EM) locating equipment
- Digital tools (maps, GPS, as-builts)
- Job-site documentation
This is a field-based, hands-on technical role requiring problem-solving, attention to detail, and independent decision-making after training.

Key Responsibilities
Junior Utility Locators will assist in:
- Performing utility locates under supervision
- Using EM equipment, GPS, maps, and as-builts to map infrastructure
- Marking utility lines per Promark/industry standards (paint, flags)
- Compiling digital field notes, photos, and documentation
- Communicating with contractors, homeowners, and stakeholders
- Adhering to safety procedures and field protocols
- Operating/maintaining company vehicles and equipment
- Gradually progressing toward independent locating as skills develop
Requirements & Suitability
This role is ideal for candidates with:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License (Driver’s Abstract mandatory)
- Ability to lift/carry up to 20 lbs.
- Capacity to stand/walk for long hours
- Willingness to work peak-season overtime, evenings/weekends, and virtual out-of-town assignments
- Experience working outdoors in all weather conditions
- Experience in on-call rotations as required
- Strong verbal and written communication
- Ability to interpret location maps, sketches, prints, or CAD software (advantage)
- Digitally proficient (basic computer skills)
- Ability to navigate significant distances for assignments
- Unflinching focus for high-precision work under pressure
- Problem-solving skills, with ability to escalate issues when needed
- Self-directed, work independently, with strong organizational skills
- Availability for evening/weekend/occasional out-of-town travel
