UX Designer

Main Purpose of the Role & Responsibilities in the Business

As an Experience UX Designer (Consultant) at Kainos, you will:

  • Deliver intuitive service experiences based on user needs and design principles.
  • Advocate for needs-based design and service design.
  • Manage, coach, and develop a small number of staff, with a focus on:
    • Managing employee performance
    • Assisting in career development

You’ll join and contribute to our growing Experience Design capability, focused on creating exemplary digital services. Our team is supportive, collaborative, driven by talent, and deeply passionate about user-centred design. We prioritise positive impact—making sure our products and services provide measurable value for millions of people through quality service design.

Minimum (Essential) Requirements

  • Ability to:
    • Define design strategy
    • Communicate benefits to senior stakeholders
  • Can:
    • Identify and design user research methods suited to business contexts and project requirements
    • Utilise journey maps to inform business and customer recommendations
  • Coordinates:
    • Prototyping efforts to meet the needs of user testing and development
  • Can:
    • Conduct usability testing
    • Integrate research insights into design strategy
  • Collaborates to:
    • Develop information architecture (IA) based on analysis and research
  • Actively promotes:
    • Accessibility (AD) standards across all projects
  • Guides other teams and stakeholders in best practice for User-Centred Design (UCD) through a project lifecycle
  • Mentors:
    • Junior team members
    • Represents UX design principles within Kainos

  • A strong ability to manage, coach, and develop team members and broader professional communities.

  • Experience with Agile delivery methodologies
  • Background in:
    • Supporting or conducting user research
    • Analysing research findings to identify content needs
  • Experience working within a full-service digital agency environment
  • Active involvement in UX communities, such as:
    • Online groups
    • Conference speaking engagements
