This role is part of HMRC Valuation Office, formerly known as the Valuation Office Agency. We have recently integrated into HMRC.

Job Description

Our Work

District Valuer Services (DVS) provide professional property advice across the public sector, including private and third sector clients involved in delivering public services and functions of a public nature. District Valuer Service is organised into five key sectors including Health, Transport & Infrastructure, the Central, Regional, Local and Devolved Government and the Environment. DVS operate on a full cost recovery basis, and all business activities involve a high level of commercial awareness.

Role Overview

District Valuer Services (DVS) are looking to recruit Valuation Surveyors with property experience. The roles are required to support qualified Chartered Surveyors to carry out inspection and valuation work and support the delivery of key contracts.

As a Valuation Surveyor within DVS, you will be heavily involved in the process of undertaking inspections of property and land, carrying out valuations, progressing client instructions and supporting the delivery of contracts to key clients.

You will be involved in a variety of interesting work for public sector bodies and will be expected to cover large geographical patches to inspect property and land. You will work as part of a team, including Chartered Valuation Surveyors who will provide you with all the advice and guidance you need. Full training is provided. We are committed to developing our people and can offer opportunities for those with aspiration to become professional members of RICS (MRICS).

Key Responsibilities

  • Carrying out site inspections and measurements of commercial and domestic property. For example, this could be measuring and inspecting medical centres for rental valuations for GP practices.
  • Researching data and collating information to formulate a decision regarding rating casework and be accountable for any decisions made.
  • Delivering property and valuation guidance in response to client instructions.
  • Inputting and downloading of data into our computer systems.
  • Providing desktop valuations for our Department for Work & Pensions (DWP) clients.

Person Specification

We are looking for candidates who have a keen interest in the property sector and are self-motivated, with a desire to further develop their property knowledge and career. You will have experience in collating and analysing a wide range of information in order to make effective decisions and be able to communicate technical or complex information clearly and simply to customers and stakeholders.

Essential Requirements

  • Demonstrate a knowledge of property, along with relevant legislation, policy frameworks, case law, and professional codes of practice, to support informed decision-making, seeking professional guidance where appropriate.
  • Self-motivation, able to work in a team environment and have the flexibility to switch, at short notice, between the various duties.
  • Possess relevant property experience gained in a commercial or public sector environment.
  • Able to plan and manage your own workload to deliver high-quality outcomes against key milestones.
  • Strong communication skills enabling you to build strong relationships with a wide range of customers and stakeholders.
  • A willingness to grow your commercial awareness to effectively support Chartered Surveyor colleagues.
  • A full UK driving licence is required as the role involves regular travel for property inspections.

Salary and Benefits

Alongside your salary of £37,682, HM Revenue and Customs contributes £10,916 towards you being a member of the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme. Find out what benefits a Civil Service Pension provides (opens in a new window).

HMRC operates both Flexible and Hybrid Working policies, allowing you to balance your work and personal commitments. We welcome applications from those who need to work a more flexible arrangement and will agree to requests where possible, considering our operational and customer service needs.

We offer a generous leave allowance that starts at 25 days, increasing by a day for every year of qualifying service up to a maximum of 30 days and a Civil Service Pension with an average employer contribution of 28.97%.
