Job Purpose
To provide a safe, reliable, efficient transport and delivery service for Instant Neighbour’s clients. The role involves operating a 3.5-tonne Luton van, supporting the movement of goods, assisting customers with care and respect, and helping maintain an organised warehouse environment.
The jobholder will act as a key link between Instant Neighbour, customers, and colleagues, delivering excellent service while promoting safety, efficiency, and environmental responsibility.
Key Responsibilities
Transport & Delivery Operations
- Safely operate a 3.5-tonne Luton van to collect, transport, and deliver goods to scheduled locations.
- Plan efficient routes using daily schedules and ensure timely service delivery.
- Carry out daily vehicle checks, including oil, water, tyres, lights, and general condition.
- Report any vehicle faults, safety concerns, or maintenance requirements promptly to management.
- Maintain the vehicle to a high standard of cleanliness, hygiene, and presentation.
- Refuel the vehicle as required and ensure it is ready for daily operations.
- Drive responsibly and professionally, always following defensive driving practices.
- Comply with all relevant road traffic laws, regulations, and organisational procedures.
- Complete required vehicle documentation and daily checklists accurately.
Customer Service
- Provide a professional and courteous service to customers, householders, and partner organisations.
- Communicate effectively with customers and colleagues, showing understanding and empathy when dealing with challenging situations.
- Represent Instant Neighbour positively while delivering services.
- Maintain strong knowledge of resale quality standards and apply them when evaluating donated goods (training will be given).
- Follow the process for labelling donated items for stock and the benefit of Gift Aid.
- Obtain customer confirmation/signatures where required.

Warehouse & Stock Support
- Assist with the safe movement, organisation, and storage of stock within the warehouse.
- Load and unload goods safely, ensuring correct manual handling procedures are followed.
- Prepare items for transport, including wrapping and protecting furniture and other goods to prevent damage.
- Ensure loads are distributed safely and efficiently within the vehicle.
- Maintain a tidy, organised, and safe working environment.

- Take responsibility for your own health and safety and that of others.
- Follow Instant Neighbour’s Health, Safety and Environmental policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate a commitment to safe working practices.
- Support environmentally responsible practices, including recycling and reducing waste.

- Carry out other reasonable duties as required to support the effective operation of Instant Neighbour’s services.

Essential
Experience & Training
- A clean, current driving licence.
- Experience driving a 3.5-tonne Luton van or similar commercial vehicle.
- A safe driving record.
- Experience working with members of the public.
- Ability to carry out basic vehicle checks and identify potential issues.
- Experience and ability to assemble and dismantle furniture when required.
Desirable
- Experience working in a charity, community, logistics, or customer service environment.
- Knowledge of local roads and routes within the Grampian area.
- Basic first aid knowledge.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
The role involves:
- Loading and unloading furniture and other goods using safe manual handling techniques.
- Moving and handling heavy items (training and guidance provided).
- Working in environments where there may be exposure to dust, dirt, fumes, noise, or strong odours.
- Following safe working practices when handling equipment and materials.
- Working both independently and as part of a team.
