Position Title: Various Roles

Position Type: Regular - Full-Time

Requisition ID: 41651

Various Roles

Wombourne

In every role, McCainers are ambitious, curious, and passionate about creating exceptional work experiences — together. With a customer first mindset, we make doing business with McCain easy.

We are now hiring across various positions at our Wombourne plant and this is your chance to be part of something that matters.

About The Roles

1️⃣ Shift Engineer (Maintenance)

We're looking for multi-skilled engineers to join our maintenance team. Whether your background is predominantly Mechanical or Electrical, we'll place you on the shift where your skills complement the team best. What matters most is that you're versatile and willing to turn your hand to both disciplines.

Day to day, you'll carry out proactive and reactive maintenance, monitor plant systems, identify improvements, and support the wider engineering team. You'll hold a Craft Apprenticeship and City & Guilds Level 3 (or equivalent), with at least 5 years' experience in a maintenance environment. Strong fault-finding skills are a must and knowledge of PLC and SCADA systems would be a real bonus.

Additional skills in fabrication and welding would be an advantage.

2️⃣ Charge Hand (Engineering Team Lead)

This role is a bridge between the team and management.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced engineer or senior operator who is ready to take their first step into a formal leadership position. As Charge Hand, you'll support the day-to-day running of the shift, act as the go-to person for your team, coordinate workloads, and help drive standards across safety, quality, and performance. You'll be a confident communicator who leads by example and brings the best out in the people around you.

3️⃣ Shift Lead

You will take full accountability for everything that happens on your shift — from safety and quality through to people and cost. You'll manage, motivate, and develop your team, hold shift handovers, and act as the most senior person on site when required. You'll need proven leadership experience in a manufacturing or FMCG environment, a strong understanding of SQDC metrics, and the ability to make confident decisions under pressure. An engineering background or technical understanding is highly advantageous.

Shift Pattern

2 days on, 1 day off, 2 nights on, 3 days off

About The Team

You’ll be based at our Wombourne plant in Staffordshire. And together our small, but perfectly formed team of over 110 colleagues produce our famous (and well loved) potato Smiles as well as our pre-baked Jacket Spuds.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
