Locum Consultant Vascular Surgeon (Cross-site Role)
Location: Queen’s Hospital & King George Hospital (Cross-site Role)
Contract Type: Locum Consultant
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Consultant Vascular Surgeon, or a Consultant General Surgeon with a strong vascular interest and relevant experience, to join the surgical team across Queen’s Hospital and King George Hospital.
This is a full-time weekday locum opportunity, providing comprehensive vascular surgical services across both hospital sites. The successful candidate will play a critical role in delivering high-quality patient care while working within a multidisciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities
The successful consultant will undertake a range of clinical duties, including:
- Managing outpatient vascular clinics
- Conducting elective and emergency vascular theatre sessions
- Performing daily ward rounds for vascular inpatients
- Leading post-take ward rounds and reviewing acute admissions
- Assessing and managing emergency vascular referrals
- Participating in consultant on-call duties as required
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, including radiology, anaesthetics, emergency medicine, intensive care, and specialist nursing teams
- Providing senior clinical decision-making and supervision
- Maintaining accurate clinical documentation and ensuring the highest standards of patient safety and care

Working Pattern
- Monday to Friday
- Typically 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- Cross-site working between Queen’s Hospital and King George Hospital
- Duties include clinics, theatre lists, ward rounds, post-take responsibilities, and on-call commitments as scheduled
Pay Rate & Start Date
- Up to £120 per hour (maximum pay rate, subject to experience and client approval)
- Start date: ASAP (subject to compliance)
Essential Requirements
Applicants must:
- Hold a current GMC registration with a licence to practise
- Be on the GMC Specialist Register for Vascular Surgery, or be a General Surgeon with significant vascular experience and a specialist interest
- Have extensive NHS consultant-level experience in vascular surgery
- Be able to independently manage elective and emergency vascular cases
- Demonstrate excellent communication and multidisciplinary team-working skills
- Possess up-to-date mandatory training and appraisal
- Have a current DBS clearance, or be willing to obtain one
- Hold the right to work in the UK
- Be DE (on the professional standards register)

Desirable Skills
- Previous experience working across multiple hospital sites
- Familiarity with busy acute NHS vascular services
- Experience with NHS electronic patient record systems
