VAT Director
Overview
An opportunity for an experienced VAT professional to join a growing specialist tax team. This role combines advisory and compliance work across a diverse client portfolio, with excellent opportunities for career progression within an expanding practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide VAT advisory and compliance support to a wide range of clients.
- Advise on the VAT treatment of complex transactions and prepare clear, practical written guidance.
- Liaise and negotiate with HMRC and other stakeholders to resolve VAT issues and disputes.
- Conduct technical VAT research and obtain specialist opinions where required.
- Manage a portfolio of clients, ensuring high-quality service delivery.
- Support business development by identifying opportunities for new work and contributing to proposals and marketing initiatives.
- Assist with VAT aspects of transactions, audits, restructuring projects, registrations and VAT returns.
- Deliver VAT training and mentor junior team members.

Requirements
- Strong experience in VAT advisory and/or compliance within a professional services environment.
- Excellent technical VAT knowledge and the ability to communicate complex issues clearly.
- Experience managing client relationships and delivering commercial, practical advice.
- Strong research, analytical, negotiation and problem-solving skills.
- Organised, proactive and able to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- A collaborative approach with an interest in developing colleagues and contributing to team growth.

Desirable Qualifications
- Professional qualifications such as ACA, CTA, CA or equivalent are advantageous but not essential. Relevant academic backgrounds in law, finance, accounting, economics, business or related disciplines are beneficial.
