Job Description
We’re looking for an experienced VAT Manager to join our European Tax team in Dublin. This is a fantastic opportunity for a strong indirect tax professional who wants to move beyond a traditional compliance-heavy role and into a position with real breadth, visibility, and impact.
As our operating model evolves, core VAT compliance activity (including VAT returns, EC Sales Lists and Intrastat in a number of countries) is being transitioned to a third party for preparation, with our internal team retaining responsibility for review, oversight, governance, and sign-off. The successful candidate will therefore spend less time on detailed return review and more time partnering with the business, managing stakeholders, dealing with VAT advisory issues, leading audits, and ensuring risks and controls are actively managed and evidenced.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

This role would suit a candidate who combines strong technical VAT expertise with the confidence and credibility to engage effectively with stakeholders across Finance, Legal, Product, external advisors, and tax authorities.
What you’ll do
- Oversee outsourced VAT compliance across a number of European jurisdictions, including VAT returns, EC Sales Lists and Intrastat filings, with a focus on risk-based review, challenge, and governance rather than full manual preparation.
- Act as a key VAT business partner, providing practical advice on VAT matters arising from business activity, projects, contracts, and cross-border transactions.
- Build and manage strong relationships with internal stakeholders, external advisers, and tax authorities across Europe.
- Lead and support VAT audits and controversy, whether conducted by tax authorities or internal audit.
- Ensure VAT risks are actively identified, monitored, and mitigated, with clear control evidence and audit trail.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, strengthen governance, and support the business with VAT value-add and optimisation opportunities.
- Manage and develop team members, helping shape the team’s role in a modern retained tax model focused on oversight, advisory support, and continuous improvement.
What we’re looking for
- Strong European VAT / indirect tax experience gained in industry and/or practice
- Relevant professional qualification (e.g. ACA / CTA or equivalent)
- Experience managing VAT advisory issues and dealing with VAT audits
- Demonstrated ability to manage and develop people
- Excellent communication skills and a proven ability to work effectively with senior stakeholders
- A proactive, pragmatic approach to risk management, controls, and continuous improvement
- Experience working in a complex, multi-jurisdictional environment
Why this role is different
This is not a traditional VAT manager role focused mainly on preparing or line-by-line reviewing returns. It is an opportunity to take on a broader leadership role in a changing the tax operating model, one that places greater emphasis on stakeholder management, governance, advisory work, audit readiness, risk oversight, and value creation.
