VAT Manager
VAT Manager – VAT Advisory, Accountancy Practice
A VAT Manager position is available within an expanding UK accountancy practice to join their leading VAT advisory team.
About the Role
This practice-based VAT advisory position focuses on delivering high-quality advisory services to a diverse portfolio of UK and international clients. You will work closely with the VAT Partner and wider VAT team, growing the firm’s advisory offering, managing client relationships, and developing junior team members.
Possible bases: Bristol, Birmingham, or Exeter.
Responsibilities
Your key duties will include:

Delivering VAT advisory services to clients across UK and international sectors, including:
- Mid-market and large corporate clients
- Education, public sector, charities, and not-for-profit bodies
- International businesses with cross-border VAT issues

Providing expertise in complex VAT advisory fields:
- Land and property transactions, Construction VAT
- Cross-border VAT considerations
- M&A and transactions VAT structuring
- Partial exemption and business/non-business apportionment
- HMRC enquiries and disputes

Advising on VAT implications of supply chains, intra-group transactions, and corporate restructuring

Supporting charities and education bodies with VAT recovery strategies and partial exemption compliance

Collaborating directly with solicitors and external advisers on land and property VAT assessments

Managing client relationships, aligning expectations, and delivering ongoing VAT compliance work

Monitoring client budgets and negotiating fee agreements

Supervising junior team members, reviewing their work for quality and accuracy

Contributing to internal and external VAT technical updates (e.g. blogs, market insights)

Supporting industry-specific business development in sectors like Education, Housing, Food & Drink and Charities

Key Requirements
To succeed in this role, you will bring:
- Significant experience in VAT advisory within an accountancy practice or HMRC environment
- Strong track record in managing a diverse portfolio of VAT clients across multiple sectors
- Experience supervising/mentoring junior team members
- Deep technical knowledge of UK VAT legislation and practical advisory application
- Ideal qualification: Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA)
- Exceptional communication skills to build relationships at all levels
- Proactive mindset and eagerness to contribute to the team’s growth
