A Top 10 accounting firm based in Central London is seeking an experienced VAT Manager to join its established and growing indirect tax team. This role offers the opportunity to work with a diverse portfolio of clients across a range of sectors, delivering both VAT compliance and advisory services within a high-performing professional services environment.

The Role

The VAT Manager will take responsibility for managing a portfolio of clients, delivering high-quality VAT compliance and advisory services, and supporting the development of junior team members. You will work closely with senior stakeholders, build strong client relationships, and play a key role in the continued growth and success of the VAT function.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing a portfolio of VAT clients across a range of industries and sectors
  • Reviewing VAT returns and overseeing VAT compliance processes
  • Providing technical advice on UK VAT and indirect tax matters
  • Acting as a primary point of contact for clients on day-to-day VAT issues
  • Leading and contributing to VAT advisory projects, including transaction support, VAT risk reviews, and process improvement initiatives
  • Supporting clients with HMRC enquiries, disclosures, and dispute resolution matters
  • Reviewing work prepared by junior team members and providing coaching and mentoring
  • Ensuring work is delivered in line with legislative, regulatory, and professional standards
  • Supporting internal tax initiatives, training programmes, and business development activities
  • Identifying opportunities to provide additional value-added services to clients

Candidate Requirements

  • ACA, ACCA, CTA and/or qualified by experience, with a VAT specialism
  • Strong UK VAT experience gained within an accounting practice, consultancy, or professional services environment
  • Experience managing a portfolio of clients and delivering against deadlines
  • Solid technical knowledge of UK VAT and indirect tax legislation
  • Experience providing VAT advisory services to a broad range of clients
  • Ability to review work and support the development of junior staff
  • Strong client relationship management skills
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and problem-solving abilities
