We are seeking an experienced UK VAT Senior Manager to join our team on an 18-month fixed term contract. This is a critical role focused on enhancing our VAT compliance framework, supporting a major tax engine implementation project, and conducting a comprehensive review of our UK/EU and Australian VAT processes across both output and input taxes.

The successful candidate will bring deep technical expertise in UK VAT, strong project management capabilities, and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional stakeholders including Finance, IT, and external advisers.

What You'll Be Doing

You will undertake reviews of our existing VAT processes, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing best practice procedures to enhance accuracy and efficiency. A significant element of the role will involve providing tax technical support. This support is for implementing a new tax engine, ensuring that the team correctly configures VAT determination logic and produces accurate and compliant outputs.

You will conduct a holistic review of output tax treatment across all revenue streams, ensuring that you correctly classify liability and properly account for all taxable supplies. Similarly, you will review input tax recovery processes, with particular emphasis on our partial exemption special method, ensuring that you correctly apply the methodology agreed with HMRC.

Additional responsibilities include providing technical support to the existing tax team when preparing and reviewing VAT returns and other compliance obligations during the contract period, developing and delivering training to finance and operational teams on VAT matters, and documenting processes, controls, and technical positions to support knowledge transfer at the conclusion of the contract.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
