What is a VMRO?
A Vehicle Make Ready Operative (VMRO) is vital to the day-to-day running of our ambulance stations. Your role is to ensure ambulances are fully stocked, cleaned, and ready for shifts.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Maintaining ambulances, including light vehicle driving
- Ensuring stations stockrooms are fully stocked, adhering to Infection Prevention and Control policies
- High standards of cleanliness and equipment functionality
Minimum Requirements
To apply, you must:
- Have the right to work in the UK (no sponsorship required)
- Hold a UK manual driving licence (for at least 12 months) with no more than 6 points
Key Responsibilities
Daily Duties
- Vehicle Cleaning & Infection Control
- Clean and disinfect all equipment taken from the vehicle before reinstallation
- Follow strict procedures for vehicles transporting patients with infectious diseases
- Preparation & Maintenance
- Ensure ambulances are clean and stocked for each shift
- Conduct regular equipment checks, removing faulty items
- Monitor and order replacements as needed
- Administrative & Reporting
- Deep clean and refuel vehicles as required
- Coordinate vehicle parking on site based on rosters
- Report damages as per procedures
- Complete and log all administrative tasks
- Carry out dynamic risk assessments, minimising risks to personnel

Additional Responsibilities
- Maintain the cleanliness of restroom facilities
- Occasionally travel between multiple sites as necessary
- Undertake any additional duties relevant to the role
Skills & Attributes
Essential:
- Suitability for physical work – This role can be physically demanding
- Ability to work independently
- Computer literate, with basic software skills
- Strong basic Maths and English proficiency
- Excellent communication and professionalism, with a respectful and collaborative approach
- Flexibility to meet changing service demands
Desirable:
- Previous knowledge/experience with infection prevention
