The Role: Vehicle Make Ready Operative (VMRO)
Key Overview
Join our team as a Vehicle Make Ready Operative (VMRO), playing a crucial role in ensuring our ambulances are clean, stocked, and operational for every shift.
- Department: Ambulance Stations
- Salary: £12.71 per hour (note: corrected from £12.21)
- Contract: Permanent (~40 hours/week)
- Location: Warrington
What You’ll Do
Your responsibilities include:
Vehicle & Equipment Operations
- Clean and disinfect ambulance interiors, equipment, and supplies to infection prevention and control standards (including post-patient decontamination).
- Prepare ambulances for shifts:
- Restock supplies (medications, personal protective equipment, etc.).
- Conduct regular equipment checks, removing fault/safe equipment.
- Deep clean & refuel ambulances as needed.
- Coordinate vehicle parking on-site per rosters.
- Identify and report vehicle damages promptly.

Assistive & Administrative Duties
- Review & order replenishment supplies as required.
- Complete daily administrative tasks and maintain records.
- Perform dynamic risk assessments to ensure workplace safety.
Safeguarding & Special Requirements
- Support cleanliness of on-site restroom facilities.
- Travel occasionally to other sites as needed.
- Adapt to miscellaneous duties that align with post requirements.
Requirements
Essential Criteria
✅ Right to work in the UK without sponsorship. ✅ 2+ years’ experience driving manually (with a UK driving licence). ✅ No more than 6 points on your licence.

Skills & Attributes We’re Looking For
- Physical fitness – this role can be physically demanding.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Tech-savvy (basic software expertise).
- Sound numeracy and literacy skills.
- Clear communication & respectful teamwork.
- Must adhere to NHS Infection Prevention policies.
Desirable Qualities
✔ Prior knowledge of infection prevention standards. ✔ Flexibility to meet urgent operational demands.
