Vehicle Mechanic
Vehicle Mechanic – MOD Contract Role (Millbrook Proving Ground, Bedfordshire)
Jonathan Lee Recruitment is seeking a Vehicle Mechanic to join their welcoming and inclusive team. This full-time position offers a salary of £43,500 per annum, plus excellent benefits.
About the Role
As a Vehicle Mechanic, you will play a key role in maintaining and repairing military vehicles and equipment while complying with technical and regulatory standards. The position is based at Millbrook Proving Ground, Bedfordshire, but includes responsibilities across three MOD sites within a 20-mile radius.
Key Responsibilities
Your weekly tasks may include:
- Onsite and field diagnostics, maintenance, and repair of military vehicles and equipment
- Fault inspection, diagnosis, and testing to ensure compliance with technical service and statutory regulations
- Troubleshooting defects and performing warranty work
- Compliance with statutory safety and environmental regulations
- Preparing safe, compliant work sites, tools, and materials
- Generating work breakdown structures, cost estimates, and performance specifications
- Independent management of technical sites in collaboration with cross-functional teams
- Delivering training tasks (internally or externally) for customers and colleagues

Key Requirements & Qualifications
Essential Skills & Experience
- Experience in vehicle inspection, maintenance, and repair, ideally in:
- Military vehicles
- Heavy commercial, construction, agricultural, or specialist vehicles
- Proficiency in operating automotive diagnostic equipment and electronic troubleshooting
- Completion of relevant technical documentation and paperwork per industry standards
- C and G (Heavy Vehicle Repair) Level 3 qualification or equivalent, including test authorisation for specified technical tests
Preferred – Not Essential
- Experience in military vehicle technical maintenance
- Recent exposure to electronic fleet management systems
- Class C (HGV2) license
