Vehicle Technician – Newtownabbey Workshop (Permanent)

Location: Newtownabbey Workshop

Are you looking for stability and variety in your next move? Join the largest, and greenest, fleet operator in the UK and take on a new challenge in a commercial vehicle workshop environment.

We’re recruiting a Level 3 qualified mechanic on a Permanent contract, with the potential to earn up to £45–50k including overtime.


Working Hours

  • Full-time: 39.5 hours per week (excluding meal breaks)
  • Rotating shift pattern (5 over 7):
    • Week 1: 06:00 – 14:30
    • Week 2: 10:00 – 18:00
    • Week 3: 13:30 – 22:00
  • Weekend rotation: One weekend in every three (alternating Saturday and Sunday shifts).

    • + Shift allowance of £90.21 per week (applicable for 13:30–22:00 shifts)
    • Saturday shift supplement: £53.66 per attendance
    • Sunday shift supplement: £107.33 per attendance

About the Role

With a fleet of over 49,000 vehicles (including traditional fuel, electric, LCVs, and HGVs), maintaining our vehicles is a true team effort. With continued investments in modernisation, this is an exciting time to join Royal Mail as a Vehicle Technician.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Performing full-range inspections, diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on trucks, trailers, HGVs, and mechanical equipment.
  • Using your personal toolkit for light and heavy vehicle maintenance and repairs.
  • Access to modern, fully-equipped workshops and specialist tooling.

About You

  • Qualification: Level 3 in Light or Heavy Vehicle Mechanics (or equivalent) – an established role requires prior experience to support colleagues and contribute to excellent teamwork.
  • Experience: Proven Vehicle Technician with a wide range of vehicle experience (e.g. LCV, HGV).
  • Licences: Valid UK manual driving licence (preferably a fully qualified HGV licence, including trailer experience).
  • Attitude & flexibility:
    • Takes pride in high working standards.
    • Will work around service demands and flexible schedules.
    • Committed to team support.
