Compensation: £36,000 – £37,000 (dependent on experience) + benefits Role Type: Full-time / Permanent
About the Role
At Babcock, we strive to create a safer and more secure world. As a Vehicle Technician at MOD Lyneham, near Chippenham, Wiltshire, you’ll play a critical role in keeping vital defence assets mission-ready.
This hands-on position ensures that military vehicles and essential training equipment remain safe, reliable, and readily available—directly supporting defence capability and operational readiness.
Key Responsibilities
Day-to-day, your responsibilities will include:
- Performing servicing, maintenance, and repairs on wheeled and tracked military vehicles
- Diagnosing faults using technical manuals and diagnostic systems
- Accurately completing job documentation to ensure compliance and traceability
- Maintaining workshop tools, equipment, and training aids to required standards
- Supporting team activities while upholding health, safety, and MOD requirements
The role operates on-site at MOD Lyneham with standard working hours of Monday to Friday (37 hours per week), with the option to work a 9-day fortnight (four-day working week).

Essential Experience
For this position, you should have:
- Experience using diagnostic equipment, laptops, and IT systems in an engineering environment
- Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work collaboratively to deliver high-quality outputs on time
- Effective communication with both technical and non-technical colleagues
Qualifications
A recognised qualification or equivalent experience is required:
- Automotive Engineering qualification, such as:
- Level 3 IMI
- City & Guilds
- BTEC or NVQ
- Armed forces experience as a vehicle mechanic or technician
- Diagnostic technician qualification or relevant diagnostic experience
- Full UK driving licence (Category B)
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Standard (BPSS) security clearance.
