About the Role

Location

Predominantly based in our London office (some international travel may be required).

Key Responsibilities

We are seeking a Principal or Associate to join our Vertical Transportation (VT) team, supporting a mix of site-based management (asset management, construction monitoring, witness testing) and project design. This is a client-facing role with opportunities for leadership within the discipline.

Our portfolio spans:

  • UK/European residential, science & research, commercial, retail, and Further Education projects
  • Super-prime London developments
  • Large-scale asset management and lift modernisation
  • National lifecycle and asset management contracts (e.g., Plumtree Court, City of London asset management renovations)

Core Focus

In this role, you will:

  • Lead technical deliveries across VT projects and contribute to bid presentations
  • Represent the discipline with client-facing management, building long-term relationships and understanding technical needs
  • Enhance client value through creative problem-solving and relationship nurturing
  • Manage and mentor engineers in the discipline, improving team performance and business outcomes
  • Ensure technical excellence, quality standards and risk mitigation throughout projects
  • Represent VT expertise company-wide and act as a key knowledge point

  • Plumtree Court (developments of note)
  • Asset management for high-value London assets
  • Major European site modernisation and lift replacements

About You

Must-Have Qualifications & Experience

  • NVQ 4 or equivalent recognised qualifications in lift engineering
  • In-depth practical knowledge of lifts, escalators, and moving walks
  • Experience in consultancy responsibilities in at least some of the areas:
    • VT design & specification
    • Surveying & reporting
    • Project management
    • Commissioning & validation
    • Asset management

Ideal Candidate Attributes

  • Strong leadership ability to develop and mentor junior engineers
  • Experience managing client portfolios, achieving KPIs, and increasing revenue opportunities
  • Mastery of UK/European codes and standards for VT
  • Ability to negotiate scope, fees, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (architects, developers, property managers)
  • Proven client & contractor communication skills
  • Self-motivated, autonomous, and minimal need for supervision
  • Experience bid-winning and workload management, meeting deadlines with high standards
  • Cultivational skills to handle complex client relationships with non-adversarial tact
