Job Description
Join our team supporting one of the UK's most important defence programmes.
We're looking for reliable, safety-focused individuals to join us as Vessel Fire & Safety Officers within a busy shipbuilding environment. This is a hands-on role where you'll help protect people, assets, and operations from fire and safety risks while working alongside a wide range of trades and specialist teams.
This is a unique opportunity to work within a highly secure defence environment, with full training provided.
Shift Patterns

Day Shift
- £15.16 per hour
- 3 days on, 4 days off

Night Shift
- £15.88 per hour
- Monday to Thursday

Night Shift
- £16.91 per hour
- 3 nights on, 4 nights off
This is a shift-based role operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
The Role
As a Vessel Fire & Safety Officer, you will:
- Help protect people, assets, and operations within a busy shipbuilding and defence environment.
- Monitor hot work activities and support safe working practices across the site.
- Carry out fire safety checks and identify potential hazards.
- Work closely with a variety of trades and teams to maintain a safe working environment.
- Operate within vessels, confined spaces, and other challenging operational areas.
- Support the delivery of fire safety standards across a nationally significant defence programme.

Qualifications
Essential Requirements
- British Citizen, or have held a British Passport for a minimum of 5 years.
- Able to obtain Security Clearance (SC).
- 5 year checkable work history, with any employment gaps over 2 weeks explained.
- Willing to work in physically demanding conditions including heat, confined spaces, and at height.
- Committed to following procedures and maintaining high safety standards.
About You
- Physically fit and able to work in demanding environments.
- Comfortable working in confined spaces, at height, in darkness, and in varying weather conditions.
- Comfortable wearing breathing apparatus and other safety equipment.
- Safety-focused, reliable, and able to remain calm under pressure.
- Strong attention to detail and communication skills.
- Previous experience in fire safety, emergency response, military, industrial, or security environments is beneficial but not essential.
