We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and passionate Veterinary Care Assistant to join our Corstorphine Vets for Pets practice.

Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Care Assistant to join our veterinary practice. This role involves supporting veterinarians and veterinary nurses in providing high-quality care to animals. The ideal candidate will have a keen interest in animal health, excellent organisational skills, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team. Previous veterinary experience is advantageous but not essential, as training will be provided. This paid position offers an excellent opportunity to develop your skills within a professional environment committed to animal welfare.

This is a great opportunity for someone looking to progress into a student nurse role in the future.

This is a part-time role working 30 hours per week, including early and late shifts. Working every third Saturday or Sunday is non-negotiable.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting veterinary staff with animal examinations, treatments, and procedures
  • Preparing and sterilising surgical instruments and equipment
  • Handling animals safely and compassionately during consultations and procedures
  • Maintaining accurate records of patient histories, treatments, and laboratory results
  • Supporting laboratory tasks such as sample collection, processing, and analysis
  • Cleaning kennels, treatment areas, and equipment to ensure a hygienic environment
  • Managing stock levels of medical supplies and ordering as necessary
  • Providing excellent customer service to pet owners and visitors
  • Ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations at all times

Requirements

  • Prior veterinary experience is highly desirable but not essential; training will be provided for suitable candidates
  • Genuine interest in animal health and welfare
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to work well within a team environment
  • Compassionate attitude towards animals and their owners
  • Ability to work flexibly within a busy practice setting
  • A valid right to work in the UK is essential
