Small Animal Neurology Intern
We are proud to announce that we are now inviting applications for a Small Animal Neurology Intern. This role is the perfect opportunity to work alongside two highly experienced Neurology Diplomates, and to expand your skills, knowledge, and clinical experience. This internship would be best suited to someone looking to pursue a Neurology residency next year.
The role consists of varying shifts to suit the needs of a busy multidisciplinary hospital and includes care of in-house patients outside of normal working hours and on select weekends and nights. Active involvement in client communication and patient care is expected, along with participation in consults and medical and surgical case management.

Hamilton Specialist Referrals is an established multi-disciplinary veterinary hospital that provides comprehensive medical and surgical care for small animals. and is supported by an exceptional rehabilitation and physiotherapy facility. Located in modern facilities, we are based in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, within easy reach of London, Oxford, the Chilterns, and Cotswolds. The hospital is five minutes from the M40 and located near major airports.
Hamilton Specialist Referrals was born out of the belief that there is room for a new wave of veterinary excellence across the UK. Unparalleled clinical care, and comprehensive information, delivered in a friendly and supportive manner to referring vets, are paramount to the team. HSR has a clear focus on recruiting the right people to make that a reality.
The hospital is operational 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and facilities include on-site 1.5T MRI and CT scanner suites, multiple operating theatres, multiple hospitalisation areas, including a high-dependency unit (HDU), a variety of joint replacement systems, electrodiagnostic equipment, and a full complement of the latest radiography and arthroscopy equipment.

Interns are encouraged to openly engage in case discussions with senior supervising clinicians, residents, and the senior nursing team, and should contribute to a positive, informative, respectful, and inclusive environment for all. Attention to detail, particularly in maintaining accurate records and written correspondence, is also a key component of this role.
The internship runs for 12 months and covers varying shifts to suit the needs of the hospital, including 1:4 weekends cover for Neurology and HDU services, and occasional OOH work.

How You’ll Make a Difference
As a Veterinary Intern, you will gain valuable exposure to a referral or advanced clinical environment, working collaboratively with experienced veterinary surgeons, nurses, and support teams to deliver high-quality patient and client care.
This role is designed to support your clinical development, build confidence in managing more complex cases, and deepen your understanding of evidence-based veterinary medicine. You’ll actively participate in ward rounds, case discussions, and clinical governance activities, while being supported by senior clinicians and mentors.

You Might Be a Great Fit If...
You are a motivated and enthusiastic veterinary surgeon who is keen to develop their clinical skills within a supportive referral or advanced-care setting. You’ll bring:
- A Veterinary degree and registration with the RCVS with experience working as part of a clinical veterinary team
- Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise workload effectively
- Clear and confident communication skills, with a collaborative approach to teamwork and a positive and proactive attitude to learning and development
- An interest in evidence-based veterinary medicine and clinical best practice
- Professionalism, resilience, and the ability to remain calm in a busy clinical environment
