Veterinary Internship – Surgical Specialties (12-Month Full-Time Role)
Location: Leeds, West Yorkshire Contract Type: 12-month internship
Our surgeveterinary intern program** at frank. Pet Surgeons provides a dynamic opportunity for motivated veterinary surgeons to refine their surgical expertise in a referral setting. Join us as we advance access to high-quality surgical care through innovative techniques, a surgical complications guarantee, and collaborative learning.
About the Role
We’re seeking a recent graduate or qualified veterinary surgeon with equivalent experience to contribute to our world-class care. As part of Inspiring Vet Care (the UK’s number 1 vet care provider), you’ll work alongside specialists in a structured referral or advanced clinical environment.
Collectively, we care for over 2 million animals, ensuring healthier pets and happier owners through evidence-based practice and cutting-edge techniques, all backed by our unique Surgical Complications Guarantee (covers issues arising within 6 months of surgery).
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate in surgical procedures Actively participate in operating theatre teams under senior guidance, including scrubbing in for emergency surgeries.
- Pre- and post-operative patient care Assist with discharge planning, re-check appointments, and follow-up radiography coordination.
- Referral support Draft referral letters and facilitate patient transitions between general and specialist care.
- On-call and weekend contributions Provide 24/7 support during OOH (Out-Of-Hours) shifts and weekend emergencies, including admitting cases and discharging pets.
- Educational engagement Engage in ward rounds, case discussions, clinical governance, and teaching sessions.
- Documentation & clinical management Maintain accurate clinical records, prioritises tasks, and optimise time management in a fast-paced terrain.

Person Specification
Skills & Technical Expertise
- Active RCVS registration with a veterinary degree and experience working within a clinical veterinary team.
- Confident communication to engage with clients, seniors, and colleagues while demonstrating a collaborative mindset and proactive learning attitude.
- Clinical development focus: Commitment to evidence-based medicine, alongside adaptability and stress management in busy veterinary settings.
- Strong organisational skills to balance prioritisation, delegation, and documentation.
