Veterinary Internship – Surgery
12-Month Surgical Internship – frank. Pet Surgeons (Leeds, West Yorkshire)
About the Role
An exciting opportunity to join the frank. Pet Surgeons team in a 12-month internship based in Leeds, West Yorkshire. Ideal for motivated veterinary surgeons seeking to refine surgical skills in a supportive, dynamic environment, this program enhances expertise while contributing to patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in surgical procedures in the operating theatre, assisting experienced veterinary surgeons
- Discharge patients post-surgery, including coordination for follow-up care and radiographs
- Conduct re-check appointments and prepare referral letters
- Offer Out-of-Hours (OOH) support to emergency staff during on-call weeks, including:
- Theatre involvement in urgent emergency surgeries
- Пет admission and discharge management on Saturdays & Sundays (7:30 am – 7:30 pm)
- Remote on-call coverage (7:30 pm – 8:00 am, Monday – Sunday) during hospital-based weeks
Rotation Schedule
All rotations operate within Mon–Fri, 8:00 am – 7:00 pm, unless specified:

- Hands-on surgical support under direct supervision (8 am – 7 pm, Mon–Fri)

Consult Week:
- Patient consultations and cath Dörfer duties (8 am – 7 pm, Mon–Fri)

On-Call Week:
- No daytime commitment (Mon–Fri)
- Required attendance at hospital (Sat & Sun, 7:30 am – 7:30 pm)
- Emergency on-call duties (7:30 pm – 8:00 am, Mon–Sun) via remote communication

Relevant Structure
Max Site Strengths:
- 3 Surgeons (2 Specialists), 1 Resident, 3 Interns
- 16 RVNs, 5 ACAs and 8 Support Staff
SME Interface: Interns work on a rota with Surgeons to fine-tune skills under close mentorship.
Requirements
- Full RCVS membership
- Prior experience:
- General practice & rotating internship (all applicants)
- Preferred: A background in a referral practice
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Fluent in written and spoken English
