Penrose Veterinary Group
We are looking for a Veterinary Surgeon to join our team at Penrose Veterinary Group in Colchester.
Salary: £55,000+ depending on experience
For over 35 years, Penrose Veterinary Group has been providing exceptional veterinary care to pets and their owners across Colchester and the surrounding community. We are proud of the experienced team we have built and the compassionate, collaborative culture that makes Penrose a genuinely rewarding place to work.
We believe great veterinary care comes from great people. That means creating an environment where Veterinary Surgeons feel trusted, supported, and empowered to deliver the very best care for their patients while continuing to develop their own clinical interests.
As part of Kin Vet Community, a small collective of like-minded community veterinary practices, we benefit from shared expertise, collaboration, and investment while retaining the individuality, autonomy, and culture that makes Penrose unique. You’ll have the opportunity to be part of something bigger while still feeling part of a close-knit team.
About the Role
We are looking for a Veterinary Surgeon who enjoys delivering high-quality first-opinion care and wants to be part of a supportive, experienced clinical team.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
